My name is Patrick Hickey and I have over 20 years of professional graphic design and illustration experience. My “9 to 5” job is graphic design manager for a specialty automotive tool manufacturer. Our in-house staff handles all design, illustration, photo and video for the company.
My freelance customers range from corporations to individuals. I feel that good design starts with good communication. The first step in the process is to find out from the customer what their goals are for the project; where the design will be used, long or short term use, etc. I then try and determine the tastes of the customer by asking for logos, designs, colors, etc. that they like. I also like to find out what the customer doesn’t like. Taking this extra time in the beginning can get us closer to the final design on the first try and eliminate the need for extra revisions later. The namesake for Stripey Dog Studio is our brindle rescue dog, Maple. She was a 70 pound ball of love and energy with a kiss or ten for everyone she met. Pretty amazing, considering her story as we know it started as a six month old puppy thrown from a car on a Miami, Florida freeway, in the fall of 2006. Luckily for her, and us, she was picked up by a kind-hearted truck driver who stopped his rig on that freeway to rescue her. Maple had a good couple of weeks riding around the country in that truck before she chose us to be her family until December 2020, when she crossed over the rainbow bridge.
